Google is said to be partnering with mobile phone giant orange to create a google phone, naturally the phone is rumoured to feature VoIP VoFI , The phone apparently will also be touchscreen and feature all the google internet applications. I suppose this explains google talk?

Nokia tests dual wireless and GSM mobile phone system

In the city of Oulu in Finland, fifty families will get their hands on Nokia 6136 mobiles in order to try out the new technology. When a user comes within range of a WLAN network, the phone switches to uses VoIP for low-cost or free calling. Once out of range, it switches back to the GSM network.

Taipei plans citywide Wi-Fi VoIP

200,000 to be making calls by the end of the year.
The city of Taipei is building a citywide VoIP network that will allow users to make calls on internet-enabled mobile phones.

The Taipei Easy Call project will use the city's WiFly citywide Wi-Fi network to connect the calls.

The mobile phones will be able to switch to VoIP calls when they are within range of the network and use the existing mobile connection at other times.

Ntl contracts Ericsson for VoIP development

UK cable giant ntl Incorporated has selected Ericsson as technology and services partner to help develop its VoIP network. Under the five-year agreement Ericsson will help roll out residential VoIP services utilising its IMS platform, which has already been installed and is undergoing testing ahead of launch. The vendor will also be involved with upgrading ntl’s voice network from circuit-switched technology to IP using its IP-based Telephony Softswitch solution.

New VoIP Phones Take On High-End PSTN and Cellular Features

New phones highlight the push for VoIP providers to move aggressively into more popular consumer markets, especially wireless. The new D-Link DPH-540 WiFi Phone is designed to look a lot like a folding 'flip-phone' mobile phone even though it connects via WiFi networks to a VoIP service. The DPH-540 is based on the SIP protocol so it will work with any VoIP provider that uses SIP to implement its service. Notably that does NOT include Skype. The phone is also ready for the forthcoming Public SIP Telephone Network (PsipTN) standard and will require a simple firmware upgrade once the standard is in operation.

AOL Enters VoIP Market

"AIM Phoneline" will feature free phone number
OL will toss itself into the growing 'free' VoIP battle later this month as it unveils "AIM Phoneline," an Internet phone service that will be integrated with the company's popular instant message product. In doing so, AOL hopes it will be able to shore up its declining subscriber base and attract new users as it sees its long-time dial-up service steadily fading into the background, while its largely successful AOL IM feature, claiming about half the IM market, also loses traction.
